Being already present in Esbjerg (Headquarters), Aarhus and Copenhagen Niels Winther decides to expand its activities to the Danish island of Fyn by opening a local office in Lindø Industrial Park in Munkebo, North of Odense and a former Maersk shipyard now re-converted into a busy fabrication yard and industrial hub for the renewables and shipping industries.
Lindø brings a favourable location for wind and other offshore projects, being placed between the North and Baltic Seas, in combination with space for large vessels with a total of 1,750 meters of quay with water depths ranging from 7.5m – 11m.
Furthermore, Lindø presents 90 x 315 metres dry dock, more than 166.000 m2 of indoor facilities of a total area of 3.3 million m2. Lindø is also home to several experienced offshore suppliers, such as crane operators, engineering consultants and fabrication yards. Therefore, this area of the Port of Odense offers the right infrastructure for current and future offshore projects.
The port also features heavy duty cranes and transport solutions up to 1000 metric tonnes each; which allow heavy lift operations such as handling of wind turbine generators hubs and wind turbine foundations, among other components. Most recently 41 jackets have been fabricated and transported from the Port of Lindø to the Wikinger offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. The foundations were produced by the Danish steel manufacturer Bladt Industries.
Niels Winther is starting a project from the port in due course and is looking forward to create value for its current and new clients also from the new location.
